There is probably nothing cuter than a dog. You are about to buy a dog and there are multiple questions and doubts in your head. The very confusing part of all is, which dog breed to buy? You can’t buy them all! Some breeds may seem more appealing to you, as compared to others. But do not let that puppy head tilt get you!
There are various aspects of the dog as well as yourself, that you need to consider before getting your new buddy home. Firstly, you must research about dog breeds and shortlist some you like. Then, you can go on and look at your own lifestyle and the general temperament of the breeds that you chose. These two things must overlap, and come into a consensus to become your best bud. Ask yourself these questions and you’ll discover just the dog breed for you!
~ How big is your house?
Different dog breeds have different sizes and therefore, your house must have room for the one you want. If you live in a flat/apartment, you surely can’t pet a Great Dane or even a German Shepherd. You will have to go for smaller breeds like a pug or maybe shitzus. Larger breeds will not have enough space to move freely in the house which will cause them discomfort.
~ How is your family atmosphere? Are they active, busy or very relaxed?
If your family members are very active and lively, then you can go for much more active dogs which are physically needier. However, if your family atmosphere is relaxed, then buying an active dog will be a mistake since it’s physical needs won’t be met. A Greyhound, which is laid back and calm, can be the choice for you. On the other hand, Cocker Spaniels have a lot of energy complimented with big personalities which are suited for active, lively and outgoing families.
~ How much time do you have in a day?
Next, you need to figure out how much time you have for your new baby bud. Dogs need much more love and care than we think they do. If you are out of the house for days, then you need a comparatively less needy breed of dog. You can leave your doggo to someone trustworthy who can take care of it. However, if you stay home and take out more than an hour or two, an active dog which is cuddly and sporty, is suitable for you. You will have time to meet its physical needs by playing and going for a run/walk. However, if you travel more often, and want to take your pupper along, Spaniels will be perfect!
~ What is the climate in your region?
If you live in extremely hot climate, then thickly, double-layered coat dogs like Huskies are not for you. They are made for cold temperatures and petting them in hot countries like India, is not such a good idea. You can consider warm climate dogs like Terriers, Retrievers, Beagles, Doberman, or a Chihuahua.
Any dog, small or big, highly active or not, needs and deserves love and care. You must be sure about buying it, in the first place. They need care and training like a baby. Like, blank canvases, they can be trained according to your lifestyle, to make them like you, like your best friend. They see the human world through you and you must be responsible care-taker. We wish you all the best for your new journey in life as a dog’s best friend!
