Nutrition

Pekingese perform well on high-quality dog food whether home prepared or commercially produced with your vet’s approval and supervision. Any diet should be suitable for the age of the dog (senior, adult or puppy). It is important to watch your dog’s calorie consumption as some dogs are prone to weight gain. Undoubtedly, treats are essential for dogs at the training level but offering too much of them can cause obesity. Keep fresh and clean water available for them at all times and if necessary then keep in constant touch with the vet about your dog’s health.

Grooming

Pekingese are small dog breeds with long hair and thick double coat. Hence, they require good maintenance. You will observe the shedding seasonally in these dogs. The occasional bath is right to keep their coat shiny and healthy. Moreover, you need to spend 1 hour brushing their hair to avoid matting and removing loose hair. To remove the tangles you can use the metal comb or slicker brush. Alike all the breeds, their nails must be trimmed on regular basis.
